Baby is our first breeding Dutch at Silver Sons! My son fell in love with Dutch rabbits due to our long time pet Black Dutch named Oreo. Now that my son is old enough to show on his own, he wanted Dutch rabbits to be able to do that with. He chose Blue as his favorite variety, and we started keeping an eye out for them.
One day at a show, by chance, I happened to be standing in the cull buyer line next to the President of the American Dutch Rabbit Club (which I didn’t realize that’s who it was until later). I ended up asking him about raising Dutch and told him of my son’s interest in having Blue Dutch someday. He suddenly opened up his carrier of culls, pulls out a 4 week old Blue baby, and gives him to me for my son! Because of how young he was when we received him, my son ended up naming him Baby.
It was so incredibly kind of him, as Baby may not be perfectly marked but he is a high quality rabbit. Mason has shown Baby once before and he did fairly well. We look forward to seeing what rabbits he will produce for us in the future!
